Some Eagle BIFs

The eagles are slowly getting more approachable. Though of course they still generally fly off..........

A roadside Eagle

It was very mild on Monday, warm in fact and we were up in Yakumo..........

Autumnal Eagles

The Eagles at Yakumo are still skittish and mostly distant but at least they looked nice in the autumnal light............

Playing the percentages..........

The snow is so deep that we gave up going to Onuma and headed east yet again where we know that a) the weather and roads are mysteriously much better and b) there are a handful eagles more or less guaranteed..........

A Freezing Monday

Wow, today was cold. In Hakodate it's been snowing heavily all day and there has been a bitterly cold wind blowing in from Siberia.

The roads and weather were too nasty to head up to Onuma so we went east again where the weather always seem to be better. And indeed it was (although it was even colder there on the coast). Even blue skies sometimes.

The local Stellers Sea Eagle flew around a bit and there were a couple of White-tailed Eagles, a Common Buzzard, 2 Peregrine and the usual common ducks and gulls.

Did I say it was cold?

A sunny Sunday

It was a fine sunny day today after several days of heavy snow. The roads were a bit nasty so we headed east..............

The above Stellers Sea Eagle seems to be in the same place every winter: there were also 2 White-tailed Eagle, 1 Goshawk, 1 Peregrine, a few Black-legged Kittiwake still around, a lone Black-necked Grebe, Brent Goose, Harlequin Duck, Red-breasted Merganser and Siberian Meadow Bunting...........

The Japanese Waxwing were still around as we drove past........................
