Peregrine on a mild late late autumn day

After freezing temperatures and snow a couple of days ago the weather became mild again............

No Bear Sunday

We spent a dark grey Sunday unsuccessfully looking for the Brown Bear I'd seen earlier in the week..............

8 February 2018

On this day (February 8th)..........................

February 8th 2015.

A female Peregrine at Sawara 3 years ago today. It was surprisingly tame and I could get very close as it devoured whatever species of bloody duck is in its talons.

On this day (January 13th)...............

January 13th 2014.

A female Peregrine at Sawara 4 years ago today. It briefly shared the same hunting ground as that year's Gyrfalcon although I never saw them interact. It had obviously just killed and eaten something judging by the blood on its belly................

The background is an old disused lighthouse; not a public toilet exterior.

That day was one of the the coldest I've experienced in south Hokkaido. Minus 19 and it was windy too making it feel even colder.

A rainy Sunday

A Peregrine in the driving rain west of town this afternoon.............a crap picture for a crap day.

I guess the farmers need the rain though..............

Not much around. A few straggling wildfowl here and there: 2 Bewicks Swan, a lone Brent Goose, a few Scaup, Wigeon, Goosander and Red-breasted Merganser. A single Grey-tailed Tattler. A lot of Ospreys (non close).

Out west

The roads were a bit nasty and frozen this morning so we headed west where the sun was shining.................

Christmas 2016

A Peregrine to the west of town this afternoon...............

A nice day for christmas, lots of snow in Onuma and clear blue skies. Not much of interest about: a few White-tailed Eagles here and there plus the usual ducks and suchlike on the sea.

Season's greetings to all those who read my blog. Well except for that person who regularly spams the comments with links to watch live sports. I hope that person's turkey gets burned, their wife leaves them and then they get arrested for drink driving.

Peregrines have fledged

A very young Peregrine west of town yesterday afternoon.......................and a rather scruffy adult.

The Peregrine nest we found a few weeks ago must have been very busy whilst we were away, the young have fledged...............
