The Crossbills in one of the local parks came down for a drink, albeit briefly................
It hasn't been much of a Crossbill year, this is the only place I've seen them so far............
Apart from the brief crossbill flurry nothing much else was going on. Hawfinch, Bullfinch and Brambling were around but well out of camera range. The usual common park residents were as common as ever...........
Fantastic shots of the Crossbills but what is the other bird Staurt?
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret, it's a Varied Tit.
DeleteSometimes I get lazy and forget to name each species in the actual post text but I always put them in the 'labels' at the bottom................
The crossbills' family outing is great! Wonderful shots all round.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wilma!
DeleteI am so envious of this!
ReplyDeleteYou should go to a pine forest and leave out a drinking bowl!
DeleteGreat Crossbill shots....and Varied Tit as part of the supporting cast is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteHi John, I wonder if you ever get Varied Tit (or indeed Crossbill) as vagrants in Hong Kong?
DeleteA couple of winters ago we had a few Varied tits as part of an east China irruption, - Crossbill, no.
ReplyDeleteHope you find the first one then.........................
DeleteI think that if I had it all to do again I could spend my life studying crossbills.
ReplyDeleteAgreed: my fave species/family for sure.
