Some eagle shots from yesterday in Yakumo. It was a strange day weatherwise: rain, sunshine but no snow and surprisingly mild.
My new lens got its first BIF workout although the eagles were a little shy.
Although the eagles were all mixed in together, the White Taileds seemed commoner upstream, could it be the Stellers get the prime (undisturbed) stretches of the river?
The Stellers were mainly a couple of miles downstream....................

I was following the last dregs of England's Ashes campaign on my smartphone. This eagle sums it up perfectly.
Is it premature to talk of Liverpool as title contenders?
I've noticed when you click to zoom on some of my pics there is some weird pixelation, especially on solid backgrounds. I'm not sure if this down to my proicessing settings in Lightroom, my monitor or something Google/Picasa does when I upload the photos............................

I can see what you mean with the oddness in the White-tailed one with the pale blue sky? Did you alter the exposure to darken the bird?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great day out though, with some pleasing results. You are lucky to have 2 such great birds to practise flight shots on. We didn't get close views of Stellers unfortunately.
I did tweak the shadows/highlights on that one and it does look a little off. The pixelation was more on the ones with white sky, I think it may be a monitor/PC issue as it is OK on my desktop but not laptop.
DeleteI notice that if I change shadows or blacks it can cause dark "noise" in plain backgrounds. I usually try to modify it with the Luminance Noise Reduction in Lightroom, but some people I know use the blur tool in Photoshop to lessen the obviousness.

Hi John, no the Yurappu Valley (where these were taken) is actually a nice scenic forested valley with only a few dairy farms scattered around. In winter it is a great spot.
DeleteDownstream (where it runs into the small town of Yakumo) isn't what you'd call pretty but it's not that bad as far as urban Japan goes................
Brilliant, Stu! I'm so mean with envy, all I can say is at least we got the ashes back. I've noticed my pictures have strange pixilation on my blog sometimes too and even the colours are different to the originals that I want to up load. Also my photos become noisier when uploaded. That said, I can only imagine how superb your raw results are.

Cool shots of the eagles as usual. Shame about the reduced quality though. I'm sure Google/Picasa is responsible for this and I don't like it at all. At least, they should've asked if we are willing to have the quality reduced or not.

DeleteUploaded shots are automatically "enhanced" when uploaded to blogger. This can be switched off in your settings.

DeleteLooks like your new lens works just fine. Fine pics indeed which capture the sheer brute force this bird must have. I'm thinking of the 5th one down - majestic shot.
