I did my good deed of the week on a mountain road last Monday............
The above (harmless) snake was basking on the aforementioned road. Unfortunately this is a death sentence as sooner or later a car or truck will drive over it.
So we sprinkled water on it and stamped on the road and off it slithered back into the bushes. 2 minutes later a huge truck doing 80 km/h came by...................a narrow escape.
The 500 f4 doesn't really make a good snake lens by the way.................
Not many birds that day. The Ospreys are nesting on the sea stack at Asabu but it was a grey hazy day and no photos survived the cull. Here's a Kingfisher though.............
I took several walks down the river this week, I didn't bother taking camera or binoculars. There are fewer Oriental Reed Warblers than before (because of the tree felling) but there still seem to be 4 or 5 singing males. The Red Cheeked Starlings have been feeding their young and the various common resident/summer breeders were all in evidence including Asian House Martin and Bullheaded Shrike.
Surprise of the week was what I think was a pair of Crossbill today.................I thought they were only winter visitors?
Gosh Stuart I never thought of you going for a walk without your canera and bins!!! Well done for saing the snake from almost certain death.
ReplyDeleteI do the walks more for the exercise really. Sometimes it's liberating not to take the camera.................
DeleteI recently had to tap my toes on the tail of a snake in the road to get it to move to a safer spot. Luckily I didn't have to dodge speeding trucks to do so. Better take your camera on your next walk; you never know what you will see. Cheers!
