A Dunlin on Sunday afternoon in Oshamanbe..........................
It was a warm springlike day, no down jacket required.
There is a flock of overwintering Dunlin in the Oshamanbe area and sometimes they feed in the corner of one of the fishing ports. All shots handheld at 700mm, not ideal but it was in a place where a tripod would have just got in the way.
I rememeber a wintering flock of Dunlin on the Ribble in Penwortham in the mid 80's. I can watch them for ages................
I guess there were around 40 of them.
The colour ringed individual i'd noticed before was still around and I could see the tags a little more clearly.
Black and yellow tags meaning it was caught in Kamchatka.
As I've said before there aren't many waders in Hokkaido in winter and Dunlin are not as common here as they are in NW Europe.......................so I fired off a lot of shots.
Hopefully they'll stick around for a while longer and I may get to see them in their breeding plumage.
We get quite a few on the beach here along with other more common species of wader. My prize was a Greenshank a year ot two back.

DeleteThe seaweed makes a great background for the Dunlin photos...winter visitors here, too.
