Hot summer days

An Osprey at Kamiiso this afternoon..............

It has been very hot this last week, over 30 and humid every day. Pretty standard for most of Japan in summer but up here in Hokkaido we generally escape the worst of it. There is however usually an uncomfortably hot spell every year of varying length...............and we're in the middle of it now.

We had a long unproductive ride out to Esan and Shikabe and ended up in Kamiiso just in time to see this Osprey fly past with its catch.

It caught me by surprise but my camera settings were more or less right.

On what would have been the best shot I clipped off its wing though.

  4. Excellent! Strange to see a shot of an Osprey without a Rainbow Trout from a certain Scottish fish farm!

    1. Hi Stuart, I don't know what kind of fish this is, only that it looks a bit surprised and dismayed at the predicament it finds itself in.

  5. Great Osprey shots. It must be one of the most widespread birds in the world.

    1. Indeed it is,it must be the only species I've seen in Asia, Australia, Europe and South America. They are much more common and easier to see/photograph in Japan than in England though..............

    1. Yes it should just have flown a bit lower. Birds are so selfish sometimes.....................
