A Ural Owl at Onuma this afternoon, the 4th different Owl hole since I started birding in Onuma. Shane it was obscured by twigs but I didn't want to walk any closer...............
The usual common birds were around in the snow.................
Yesterday in a park in the east of town there were flocks of Redpoll, Crossbill and Brambling. Winter, finally, is about to start.
Thanks for clicking this link.......

With or without the twigs, Ural Owl is a great bird !
ReplyDeleteThis Owl has now been christened 'twiggy'.
DeleteI'd be happy to see one, let alone photograph it!
ReplyDeleteOwls are great but I don't see many. This is pretty much the only owl species I ever get to see.
DeleteCouldn't you take a weekend trip to see the Fish Owl - it's on your island after all!????
DeleteHi, yes I have been up there before to see it but it is still quite a long way away (too far for a weekend anyway, we don't have Australian concepts of near and far in cramped Japan!).
DeleteI think I'd be going back with a pair of secateurs. Still a good shot Stuart.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the Curlew Sand, latest I've ever seen one and while the weather has been mild and there's lots of food in the stubble, I don't expect the bird to stay much longer.
I have a feeling someone might do a bit of gardening..................not me though!
DeleteCute photo of the Ural Owl..... and I kinda miss those usual common birds too!
ReplyDeleteHi Ayuwat, yes even on slow days like these it's nice to have them to photograph..........
DeleteSome lovely birds in the snow. I like the twigs framing the Ural Owl. It's a great portrait. We had snow on Friday morning but then the rain washed it away.
ReplyDeleteIt rained here today too actually, winter is a bit late again.
DeleteI like the branches personally. It is so refreshing to see a different Owl as the net is saturated with SE and Barn pics here.
ReplyDeleteAlways like to see the Varied Tit - it is one smart little bird.
Hey I'd love a SE Owl pic (scarce here) and I've only ever seen one Barn Owl. Ever.
