Autumn returns

A female Black Woodpecker at Onuma this afternoon. It was very mild today, all the snow has melted in Hakodate and Onuma.




The weather was beautiful today but the birding rather slow. In the early morning in Yakumo there were a lot more eagles than on Monday but I didn't get a single decent shot. I'm still not quite familiar with the best settings for my new lens, I tend to leave it wide open too often leading to massively overexposed shots especially on bright days like these. This White Tailed Eagle was the best of a sorry bunch.

At the rivermouth there were my first Black Scoter of the season offshore and  hundreds of Black Tailed Kittiwakes going to and fro.

This one was at Sawara, they obviously visit the local ports and rivers during moult, look at how tatty they are..................

At Onuma it was also pretty quiet, the Black Woodpecker being the highlight.

The tame tits and nuthatches were around of course.

I've had my lens around 3 weeks now and I've only used it handheld so far. Spending all day with it must be like doing a good session of weight training down the gym....................
