Some Long-tailed Ducks..............
We were north of town at the weekend.............
We were showing Tony and Megumi some of the local birds and we got lucky with a very tame pair of Long-tailed Ducks...............
These were my first of the winter. They are usually in the middle of the ports and are often not close enough to photograph. Not this day though...............
I had the teleconverter on for these 2 shots:
But then they came so close I didn't need it and removed it.............
The males are one of only a few birds that look better in winter plumage................
Lots of blown highlights on the males...........the females are easier.

We were both seeing Long-tailed Ducks this weekend. They populate the Great Lakes by the thousands in the winter and can be seen very close to shore. Any time now they will be leaving us.
ReplyDeleteI was happy with just 4!
DeleteReally attractive duck, these....
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed...........
DeleteSome great pictures, Stu. I saw some in Hokkaido but they were too far for photos.
