Back to work.............
The depressing reality of early January means it's time to work again...............
I snatched an hour in the port at Kamiiso thsi afternoon and the sun was shining. There were 20 or 30 Black Necked Grebes in the port.............
Also around were Scaup, Great Crested Grebe, Goldeneye, Great Egret, Whooper Swan, half a dozen species of gull and a lone White Tailed Eagle.
Very heavy snow yesterday, here are a couple pf pics from a few days ago, the gulls in Shikabe and the Nuthatch in Onuma.
Still no news of the Gyrfalcon at Sawara although I have seen photos of 2 other individuals further north in Hokkaido (one of which looked very much like our bird from last winter plus a year nearer maturity). Will it come back? Or am I doomed to photograph only common birds this early winter?
If the weather is OK this January/early February I should make it up to Yakumo several times at least, I never get tired of the eagles...........................

Well someone has to work! Great shots on this post and I especially like the Nuthatch.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret, I just had almost 2 weeks off work (an absolute eternity in Japan) so I shouldn't complain too much.
DeleteYour "common" birds aren't common to me ! And, if you get to Yakumo, everybody likes eagles ..
ReplyDeleteOther people's common birds often seem exotic. I've been out of the UK long enough that common stuff like Blackbird and Robin seem kind of exotic these days.............
DeleteI can well imagine that you never tire of the eagles. Just one day with them would be nirvana for me!
ReplyDeleteWell David you do have Bald Eagles, no?
