Obon
A hot humid weekend.............................
Obon is the main summer holiday in Japan. It is is mid August when the birding is quiet but just about to turn a corner. Autumn is not far off and in SW Hokkaido the waders will start passing through very soon.
My 500 f4 lens is still at Canon being fixed so all these are with my old 100-400.
No waders yesterday but west of town there were lots and lots of Pacific Swifts..................
And Ospreys all along the coast..............a longer lens would have been nice here.
In Kamiiso here were lots of Cormorants and i snapped some pics of one flying by and was surprised to find it is a Great Cormorant (I'd assumed they were mostly Teminks there).
Lots of Black-tailed Gulls catching flying ants too..............
Other stuff around included Great Egret, Sand Martin and Japanese Green Pigeon. The only thing of note near my apartment last week was a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron which I flushed whilst taking a walk.
The aforementioned Obon holiday means my lens may not be back by next weekend..............
